Traffic on Kyiv’s Podilsky and Southern Bridges to Be Halted for Up to 15 Minutes During Air Raid Alerts
Traffic Restrictions on Kyiv’s Bridges Amid Air Raid Warnings
According to ХВИЛЯ: When an air raid alert is declared in Kyiv, traffic will be temporarily stopped on the Podilsky and Southern bridges for up to 15 minutes from the start of the warning. Specifically, the Podilsky Bridge will be closed for vehicles traveling from the left bank to the right bank, while the Southern Bridge will restrict movement from the right bank toward the left bank.
Access Points and Security Measures on the Southern Bridge
Drivers heading to the left bank via the Southern Bridge can enter from Stolychne Highway, Naddniprianske Highway, or near the Vidubychi bus station. It is important to note that other bridges crossing the Dnipro River in Kyiv will remain open during these alerts. These closures will last no longer than 15 minutes after the air raid alarm is activated.
These precautions come in response to recent security incidents:
- On October 1, Russian drones struck near a support pillar of the Southern Bridge twice, causing metro service to be suspended.
- Following an attack on the Northern Bridge, buses and trolleybuses have continued operating without interruption.
Given the current security environment in Kyiv, temporarily closing key bridges during air raid alerts is a critical step to protect residents and prevent accidents on major transport routes. These measures aim to enhance public safety amid aerial threats, particularly in light of recent attacks underscoring the need for such proactive responses.
In light of recent incidents, including a targeted strike on the Northern Bridge, authorities are implementing additional safety measures across Kyiv's transport network. This includes the temporary traffic halts on key bridges during air raid alerts, aimed at ensuring public safety.
