Suspects Apprehended After Rental Car Theft in Kyiv
According to Главком: Police in Kyiv have arrested two young men accused of stealing a vehicle from a well-known car rental service in the Desnianskyi district. The incident took place in the Troieshchyna area, where a Volkswagen had been parked on the roadside near the intersection of Arkhitektora Nikolaieva Street and Chervonoi Kalyny Avenue the previous evening. By morning, the car was gone.
The suspects, both students aged 20 and 21, allegedly drove the stolen vehicle to a forested area and removed several components, including:
- tires with rims
- side mirrors
- headlights and taillights
- a car stereo
- interior floor mats
These parts were then loaded into the suspects' own car.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
The arrests were carried out under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators from the Desnianskyi Police Department, under the procedural guidance of the Desnianskyi District Prosecutor's Office, have charged the suspects under Part 2 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses illegal vehicle possession by a group acting on prior conspiracy. If convicted, they face up to eight years in prison. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
Crime analysts and detectives from the Desnianskyi Police Department, working alongside colleagues from the Kyiv Main Police Department, tracked down the perpetrators, highlighting the effectiveness of inter-departmental collaboration in combating crime.
