Honoring the Memory of Volodymyr Pyrohov

According to Главком: A memorial plaque has been unveiled on Novoukrainska Street in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district to honor fallen soldier Volodymyr Pyrohov. The memorial is dedicated to the sergeant, who served in the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians, and commemorates his contribution to defending Ukraine's freedom and independence. The plaque features a portrait of Volodymyr Pyrohov, and a flagpole with the national flag has been installed at the beginning of the alley.

Volodymyr Pyrohov was born on April 29, 1970, in the village of Strilnyky, Shpykiv settlement community, Tulchyn district, Vinnytsia region. He completed his compulsory military service from 1988 to 1991 and later worked as a security guard for Kyiv's Municipal Guard. He participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) from 2015, and following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, he served in the 46th Battalion of the 72nd Brigade. Tragically, Volodymyr Pyrohov was killed in action on November 4, 2022, in the Donetsk region and is buried in the cemetery of his home village, Strilnyky.

Words of Remembrance

The inscription on the memorial plaque reads:

'From friends and fellow countrymen. Eternal memory to the Hero. Pyrohov Volodymyr Ivanovych. Warrior of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians, who died defending the freedom and independence of Ukraine. Eternal memory and gratitude for his bravery.'

The plaque also notes that 'together with his brothers-in-arms, serving as commander of a machine-gun platoon in one of the units, he courageously defended the Homeland, giving a worthy rebuff to the invaders and fighting for the Ukrainian people's right to freedom and independence.'
