Kyiv Restores Trolleybus Routes on the Northern Bridge

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Trolleybus lines 29, 30, 31, and 47 have resumed operations over Kyiv’s Northern Bridge, although they are currently running on altered routes and schedules. This restoration comes despite recent Russian drone strikes that inflicted damage on bridges connecting key city districts. On October 3, the Northern Bridge linking Obolon and Troyeshchyna was targeted, resulting in harm to the road surface and the trolleybus wiring system.

Transport Limitations During Air Raid Alerts

During air raid warnings, vehicle movement is temporarily restricted on the Podilskyi and Southern Bridges. Specifically, traffic is halted on the Podilskyi Bridge from the left bank to the right bank for up to 15 minutes following the start of an alert. Similarly, the Southern Bridge is closed to traffic moving from the right bank to the left bank for the same duration. Access to the left bank via these bridges is available through Stolychne Highway, Naddniprianske Highway, and the Vydubychi bus station, according to Kyiv city authorities.

It is important to recall that on October 1, Russian drones struck near the support pillar of the Southern Bridge, causing a halt in metro and surface transit services. Another attack occurred overnight on October 2, damaging the bridge’s support structure, guardrails, a traffic lane, and a concrete barrier near the metro. In total, the Southern Bridge endured four drone attacks between October 1 and 2.

Other bridges spanning the Dnipro River remain open during air raid alerts, helping maintain some citywide mobility despite ongoing threats. While trolleybus service on the Northern Bridge has been reinstated, operations remain vulnerable due to the persistent attacks on critical infrastructure.

The resumption of trolleybus traffic across the Northern Bridge marks a vital step in maintaining Kyiv’s public transport accessibility amid heightened Russian aggression. Meanwhile, restrictions on other bridges highlight the ongoing need for strict safety measures, profoundly affecting daily life for residents. This situation underscores the fragility of Kyiv’s transport infrastructure and the urgent necessity to protect it during wartime.

As Kyiv navigates the complexities of restoring its transport services, the metro is also set to resume operations across the Southern Bridge following a thorough assessment. This development highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure mobility in the city amidst persistent threats, as authorities strive to stabilize public transport options for residents.
