Kyiv Metro's Red Line Service to Resume, Chernihivska Station Remains Closed Amid Repairs
Kyiv Metro Set to Restore Train Operations on Red Line
According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On the evening of October 19, metro trains will resume running along Kyiv's red line between Lisova and Akademmistechko stations. However, Chernihivska station will stay closed due to damage sustained during recent attacks, with repairs still underway. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that trains will pass through Chernihivska without stopping until restoration is complete.
Ongoing Repair Efforts at Chernihivska Station
Repair work at Chernihivska station, heavily damaged in the attacks, is ongoing with over 70 specialists involved in the restoration process. The reconstruction of damaged tracks and the contact rail is nearing completion. Teams are also working to restore power supply and the train control systems. These repairs are among the most complex and have been conducted continuously since nighttime.
The assaults on Kyiv during the night of October 19 resulted in the death of a 21-year-old woman and one other confirmed fatality, with eight more people injured. The attacks employed ballistic missiles including Iskander-M and S-400 systems, cruise missiles Iskander-K, and 269 Shahed-type strike drones. Damage was recorded across at least three districts of the capital, impacting:
- Shalet Ice Arena,
- Cosmo Multimall shopping center,
- Chernihivska metro station,
- Several educational institutions.
To ease commuter disruption caused by Chernihivska station's closure, Kyiv authorities have increased bus services on routes No. 1-M and No. 118. Fifteen additional buses were added to the temporary 1-M route: three will operate between Lisova and Darnytsia stations, while twelve will run from Lisova to Palats Sportu. This measure aims to maintain convenient travel options for residents during the metro repairs.
Resuming metro service between Lisova and Akademmistechko marks a crucial step in restoring Kyiv's transport network. Nonetheless, the closure of Chernihivska station highlights the severe impact of the recent missile strikes. Expanding bus services provides necessary relief for passengers facing disruptions amid extensive repair work. The situation underscores the ongoing need for vigilant monitoring and adaptive responses to safety challenges during this period of conflict.
As the restoration efforts progress, it's essential to stay informed about the timeline for the resumption of services on the red subway line. For a detailed update on when the metro operations will fully resume and other related developments, read more about the situation here.
