In Mykolaiv, 'Parusnyi 7A' Co-Op Cuts Heat Use in Half After $19M Energy Efficiency Upgrade
У Миколаєві спільнота «Парусний 7А» знизила витрати на опалення вдвічі завдяки модернізації енергетичних систем на 19 мільйонів доларів.

Energy Retrofit Success at Mykolaiv’s 'Parusnyi 7A' Residential Building

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Residents of the multi-story building managed by the housing cooperative 'Parusnyi 7A' in Mykolaiv have completed a comprehensive energy efficiency retrofit, investing around 19 million hryvnias. This extensive upgrade has led to a 50% reduction in heat consumption, significantly improving living conditions for the occupants.

The project was financed through a combination of government and municipal support programs, notably the 'Enerhodim' initiative by the Energy Efficiency Fund. Under this scheme, the costs were distributed as follows:

  • 70% covered by the Energy Efficiency Fund;
  • 10% contributed by the city budget;
  • 20% funded by the cooperative members themselves.

To meet their share, the co-op residents secured loans, reflecting their serious commitment to the project’s success.

Project Timeline and Key Milestones

The modernization began in 2016 with essential repairs to the water supply, sewage systems, roof replacement, window upgrades, and installation of an individual heating unit. The facade insulation work started in 2021 but experienced a one-year pause due to the full-scale invasion. The insulation was finally completed in June 2023.

Following the completion of the retrofit, residents immediately noticed the benefits. This initiative not only enhanced the building’s energy efficiency but also serves as a model for successful community-driven projects backed by state support. Across Ukraine, such energy modernization efforts highlight the vital role of accessible financing in transforming living standards.

The completion of this upgrade at 'Parusnyi 7A' marks a significant step toward improving the energy performance of Ukraine’s housing stock. Projects like this reduce heating expenses and increase residential comfort, a crucial advantage amid ongoing energy challenges. The positive outcome here may encourage other housing cooperatives to undertake similar renovations, ultimately benefiting the country’s environmental footprint and economy.
