The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained the scandalous appointment of Ilashchuk as ambassador to Bulgaria
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine explained why a non-career diplomat was appointed as ambassador to Bulgaria.
The new ambassador Olesya Ilashchuk has a qualification in international relations. Moreover, the appointment of non-career diplomats as ambassadors is a common international practice. This is stated in the ministry's message.

'Regarding the appointment of Olesya Ilashchuk as ambassador, according to the information available at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she graduated with honors in 'Regional Studies' from the Department of International Relations of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations of the Chernivtsi National University named after Yuriy Fedkovych. She has a qualification as an international relations specialist and translator. She is fluent in English,' the ministry's message states.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that the Bulgarian government, after assessing her candidacy, as is customary in international practice, promptly granted the agrément for Ilashchuk, without any reservations regarding her work in Bulgaria.
'The appointment of non-career diplomats as ambassadors is a common international practice. In Ukraine, over the past two years, all non-career diplomats appointed as ambassadors have demonstrated commendable work results. It is based on their performance, rather than interpretations and insults, that the work of the ambassador abroad should be judged,' the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press service noted.
It was previously reported that the president of Ukraine appointed Olesya Ilashchuk as ambassador to Bulgaria.
According to media reports, she has no experience in diplomacy or government positions. She was positioned as a specialist in sexology and precious jewelry.
Information that the new ambassador to Bulgaria has no relation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been confirmed by several sources in the diplomatic corps.
On Olesya Ilashchuk's Facebook page, it is stated that she is a clinical psychologist, systemic family therapist, and Gestalt therapist.She studied at the Ukrainian Gestalt Institute and HRD Antwerp in Belgium. She also studied an MBA course at the MIM Business School.
According to the analytical system Youcontrol, from 2010 to 2015, she held a managerial position in the jewelry company 'GEMMA'. Until October 2021, Olesya Ilashchuk was also a co-founder of the company.
The controversial firm 'Gemma' was 'highlighted' in a criminal case regarding the former director of the Kalynivsky market, Ivan Rynzhuk. He was suspected of money laundering. In 2015, the court acquitted Rynzhuk.
