Record-Breaking Wind Turbine in Schipkau

According to НВ — Техно: In the eastern German town of Schipkau, a groundbreaking wind turbine reaching 365 meters in height has been installed. This towering structure ranks as the second tallest in Germany, surpassed only by the Berlin TV Tower. Developed by the German engineering firm GICON for the Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation (SPRIND), the prototype turbine delivers a capacity of 3.8 megawatts. Future commercial models are expected to produce over 7 megawatts. Its exceptional height significantly boosts efficiency, enabling it to generate twice the electricity compared to conventional turbines with similar rotor diameters.

Innovative Engineering and Future Prospects

The turbine was erected using a specialized telescopic tower equipped with a mechanical jack lift. Germany has the potential to deploy up to 4,000 of these high-altitude turbines at existing power plants, minimizing the need to repurpose agricultural land. After completing commissioning procedures, the turbine is scheduled to be connected to the grid and officially launched in November.

“Reaching the final height marks a pivotal milestone for the entire project.”

The installation in Schipkau represents a major advancement for renewable energy development in Germany, with the potential to substantially reduce carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels. By generating more electricity per turbine, this technology also helps preserve valuable farmland, an important consideration for food security. Looking ahead, similar projects could form the backbone of Germany’s transition toward more sustainable and resilient energy systems both nationally and internationally.

“A bold theoretical concept has finally become a fully operational, full-scale industrial facility.”
