The number of building collapses in Russia is rapidly increasing: main causes of disasters

According to glavcom.ua: In Russia, more than 30 collapses of residential and public buildings occurred in the first six months of 2025, which were not related to military actions. The frequency of such incidents is rising, and several main causes can be identified among the culprits: gas explosions, emergency condition of buildings, and mistakes during construction or renovation.

For example, a recent gas explosion in Saratov led to the collapse of the entrance of an apartment building, resulting in casualties, including a child. The housing and communal services did not respond to residents' complaints about a faulty pipe. Similar incidents have also occurred in Kursk, Chuvashia, and Tobolsk - often due to domestic gas cylinders or the emergency condition of pipes.

Besides gas explosions, the emergency condition of houses is also a common cause of collapses. For instance, in July, the entrance of an emergency house collapsed in Astrakhan, which almost happened earlier. Additionally, the ceiling of an old house in Zlatoust collapsed on a family, including many children. Overall, there are about 150 emergency houses in the city.

In general, building collapses in Russia are becoming increasingly dangerous due to gas explosions, emergency conditions, and construction errors, and this requires immediate measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
