Rotterdam Rocks! A Futuristic Vision Unveiled

According to УНІАН — Туризм: A groundbreaking architectural project named Rotterdam Rocks! has been unveiled in the Netherlands, set to be built in Rotterdam. Designed to serve as a powerful symbol in the fight against climate change, the initiative was launched by the social enterprise Shift, which held an international design competition for its future headquarters last year. The winning design comes from the renowned firm MVRDV.

Located in the emerging Waterkant district on the southern bank of the Meuse River, the structure will consist of seven enormous stone blocks. The architects have crafted a striking, thought-provoking design that encourages reflection. The building's exterior walls will feature recesses designed to collect soil and water, creating habitats for plants, animals, and insects.

Interactive Spaces and Eco-Friendly Features

Inside, the venue will host a vast interactive space, a 200-room hotel, a restaurant, a food court, educational facilities, and areas for business events and community gatherings. The interactive exhibition Elysium will span 5,000 square meters, with organizers expecting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.

Rotterdam city councilor Chantal Zeegers added: “It’s great to see that Shift shares these ambitions. This is reflected not only in the original and iconic architecture but also in a program that will inspire both Rotterdam residents and visitors to contribute to a sustainable future.”
