Pensioner in Vienna burns himself after drinking alkaline solution instead of water in a cafe
A pensioner in Vienna was hospitalized after drinking an alkaline solution instead of mineral water in a cafe. The man suffered burns to his mouth and stomach. This was reported by the newspaper Krone with information from Glavkom.
Last week, 62-year-old Robert H. visited a cafe at the Vienna market, where he ordered food and Italian mineral water. After taking a sip of the liquid from a bottle that he found to be loosely capped, the man felt severe pain in his mouth.
'The pain was unbearable. I feel very bad,' confessed the pensioner.
Other visitors called an ambulance, assuming that the man was having an allergic reaction. However, it later turned out that Robert had burns to his mouth and stomach.
The bottle containing the dangerous liquid was seized by the police for further analysis, but it is preliminarily assumed that it was an alkaline cleaning solution.
Reactions from medical professionals and investigation
Doctors claim that the patient will be able to resume eating in the coming days and will be discharged early next week. However, it is important to remember that, in the long term, the burns could lead to serious gastrointestinal problems.
'The authorities checked all bottles of drinks in the establishment, but no violations were found. A criminal case has been opened. The investigation is ongoing,' said a representative of the Vienna Health Association.
Other cases of incidents during food and drink consumption
Recently, a woman nearly died after drinking coffee from a vending machine with insects at Palma de Mallorca airport. Additionally, a cafe owner in Istanbul was fined for presenting a separate bill for a lemon for tea at a significant amount.
This news describes a case where a pensioner mistook an alkaline solution for mineral water, resulting in burns to his mouth and stomach. Medical professionals predict a quick recovery for the patient, although they warn of possible future gastrointestinal issues. A criminal case has been opened, and an investigation into this incident is ongoing.
