Civilian Strike in Merefa: No Military Targets, Says Ukraine’s Top Diplomat, Urging Stronger Air Defenses
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Speaks Out
According to МЗС: Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has condemned the Russian attack on the city of Merefa in the Kharkiv region. The strike, which hit civilian infrastructure, killed at least six people and wounded roughly twenty others. Sybiha stressed that no military facilities were present in the area of the attack, calling it a 'cold-blooded terrorist assault on civilians with zero military justification.'
“Russia has killed at least six people and wounded about two dozen more in yet another deliberate strike on civilian infrastructure in the town of Merefa, Kharkiv region,” stated Minister Andrii Sybiha.
He further emphasized that this reflects a deliberate policy of terror by Russia against the people of Ukraine. “Moscow is waging a campaign of murder, destruction, and intimidation, fully aware of the crimes it is committing,” Sybiha added.
Call for Action
Sybiha noted that each such attack is a direct consequence of insufficient pressure on the aggressor, warning: 'Delay and indecision only encourage the Kremlin to kill more civilians.' He called for an urgent strengthening of air defense capabilities, increased investment in the defense industry, and decisive measures to limit Russia’s economic power. The minister stressed that 'accountability must be ensured for all those who planned, ordered, and carried out these attacks.'
This incident highlights the escalating situation in Ukraine and the growing threats to civilians as a result of Russian military operations. Statements from Ukrainian authorities signal a firm intent to enhance defensive and air security capacities, which is critical in light of recent assaults. Meanwhile, the international community is expected to explore new ways to pressure Russia in response to the rising violence, aiming to prevent further civilian casualties.
The recent attack on Merefa underscores the ongoing threat to civilians amid escalating military actions.
