According to Главком: With Hungary's parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12, the opposition party Tisza is polling ahead of the ruling Fidesz party. Among decided voters, 53% back Tisza compared to 39% for Fidesz, giving the opposition a 14-point lead, though this gap has narrowed from 16 points in the previous poll. When all surveyed voters are considered, support for Tisza stands at 38%, while Fidesz holds 30%.

Based on these figures, analysts project Tisza could secure 115 seats in Hungary's 199-member parliament, while Fidesz might obtain 78 mandates. There is also a possibility the far-right Mi Hazánk party will surpass the 5% electoral threshold. These elections are being closely watched across Europe, as Hungary's domestic political direction has significant implications for EU unity.

Tisza Party Leader's Agenda

Tisza's leader, former government official Péter Magyar, has stated that if victorious, his party will combat corruption, work to unlock billions in frozen EU funds, and strengthen Hungary's integration with the EU and NATO. For Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, this contest represents his most serious political challenge in 16 years. A significant portion of the electorate, however, remains undecided.

Adding another layer to the tense pre-election climate is the unresolved issue of Hungary's veto on a €90 billion EU loan package for Ukraine. The EU still has time to address this veto, but the decision hangs over the campaign. The outcome of the Hungarian vote could reshape the country's political direction, particularly regarding its EU relations and internal issues like corruption. With many voters still making up their minds, the final weeks of campaigning are likely to be decisive.
