First Tranche of EU Loan Reaches Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine has received the initial €3.2 billion installment from the European Union under the Ukraine Support Loan program. These funds, now deposited into the state budget, are earmarked to bolster the country's defense capabilities and social resilience. This payment represents the first portion of a much larger €90 billion credit package scheduled for delivery over the next two years.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the release of this first tranche. A key milestone was reached in May when President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed both the Credit Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding, formally advancing this financial partnership. The initial funds are now part of the two-year loan plan first unveiled at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk.

Ongoing Aid and Future Commitments

Since the start of the full-scale war, the European Union has provided Ukraine with roughly €200 billion in total assistance. In the coming days, Brussels is set to disburse an additional €6 billion, with a portion designated specifically for drone production. Furthermore, the EU is launching a direct investment fund targeting strategic sectors of Ukraine's economy, starting with a public seed package of up to €220 million. Kyiv expects to sign around 160 agreements worth over €10 billion.

'The funds are already in the state budget. They will help strengthen our defense capabilities and social resilience. I thank the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and all EU leaders for this crucial decision,' stated Yuliia Svyrydenko.

Receiving this tranche marks a significant step in the EU's ongoing financial support for Ukraine, especially amid the protracted conflict. The money will be allocated not only for defense needs but also to enhance social stability, which is vital for sustaining the population during these challenging times. With further disbursements and investments already planned, Ukraine is gaining the means to reinforce its economic foundation and adapt to the new challenges facing the nation.

In addition to this significant disbursement, the EU has previously allocated €2.8 billion to Ukraine through the Ukraine Facility Program. This ongoing support highlights the EU's commitment to strengthening Ukraine's economy and defense capabilities during these challenging times.
