According to glavcom.ua: Ukraine has rescued defenders and civilians from Russian captivity. Most of them had been in captivity since 2022. This was reported by Glaikom, citing President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Among those released are soldiers of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Border Service, and the State Special Transport Service. They helped defend Ukraine in various regions such as Donetsk region, Mariupol, Luhansk region, Kharkiv region, and Kherson region.

Restoring Freedom

«Prisoner exchanges will continue, and I am thankful to everyone who helps with this. One of Ukraine's main goals is to free all our compatriots from Russian chains. Huge thanks to everyone involved in this matter», – noted the president.

Among those released today were also defenders of Mariupol, who had been in captivity since 2022. Most of the released spent over three years in captivity.

Recall that on June 26, Ukraine and Russia exchanged prisoners. Some of them were considered missing. The oldest released was 62 years old, and the youngest was 24. Soldiers of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Border Service, including representatives of the marine infantry, motorized infantry, and assault troops, returned to their homeland. Defenders of Mariupol were also among those released.

Russians violate the Geneva Convention, disregarding not only conditions related to Ukrainian military personnel but also to civilians. More than 90% of Ukrainians in Russian captivity are subjected to torture.

Ukraine continues to negotiate for the release of its citizens in captivity and is making every possible effort to return each free in spirit and body to their homeland.
