Ukraine Seeks Deeper Ties with Latin America, Offering Expertise to 33 Nations
Ukraine's Outreach to Latin America
According to МЗС: In a column for RBC-Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized the strategic need to strengthen cooperation with the nations of Latin America and the Caribbean. He highlighted key statistics about the region, which comprises 33 countries with a combined population of 662 million people and accounts for 8% of global GDP. Sybiha noted that the region is actively seeking new opportunities and partnerships, demonstrating both stable economic growth and undergoing complex transformations. This diplomatic push comes as Ukraine works to build a broad international coalition of support.
Mutually Beneficial Partnership
Andrii Sybiha pointed out that Latin America is gaining increasing influence in the global economy, energy, food security, climate policy, and international diplomacy. He stressed a crucial point:
“The most important thing is to clearly understand that this is about mutually beneficial cooperation. Latin America is not just a source of political votes for Ukraine. Likewise, Ukraine is not merely an object of solidarity for the region.”
The Minister outlined specific areas where Ukraine can offer value to Latin America:
- Technological solutions
- Digital governance models
- Security expertise
- Scientific cooperation
- Experience in maintaining state functions under unprecedented pressure
In return, Ukraine stands to gain access to new markets, economic growth, expanded geopolitical maneuverability, and new strategic alliances. Cooperation with countries in this region holds significant potential for mutual benefit and development.
Minister Sybiha's statements underscore the strategic importance of Ukraine intensifying its international connections amid contemporary global challenges. With its growing economic and political weight, Latin America could become a key partner for Ukraine in broadening its foreign policy and economic cooperation. Establishing a strong dialogue with these nations could contribute not only to economic growth but also to strengthening Ukraine's position on the international stage.
