Attacks on Russian Oil Refineries

According to Главком: On June 28, 2026, Ukrainian defense forces carried out strikes against two oil refineries located in Russia, as confirmed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The targeted facilities were the Slavyansk refinery in the Krasnodar region and another plant in the Yaroslavl region. The operation coincided with Ukraine’s Constitution Day, adding a symbolic layer to the military action.

“Our warriors kicked off Ukraine’s Constitution Day with remarkable precision. Last night, our long-range sanctions reached two oil refineries in Russia. The Slavyansk refinery in the Krasnodar region-about 300 kilometers from the front line-was hit. We also struck a refinery in the Yaroslavl region, roughly 700 kilometers from our border.” Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The president emphasized that these strikes are part of a broader effort to weaken the resources fueling Russia’s war machine. He added:

“Each of our long-range sanctions reduces the resources that power the Russian war machine and brings us one step closer to peace. We will continue to respond to Russian terror. I thank our soldiers for these results!” Volodymyr Zelenskyy

These attacks on Russian oil refineries represent the latest phase in Ukrainian defense operations aimed at diminishing the enemy’s ability to wage war. For context, such strikes are part of a sustained campaign to disrupt Russian logistics and fuel supplies, which are critical to sustaining prolonged military engagements.

Ukraine’s Strategy Against Russian Aggression

This action underscores Ukraine’s strategy of taking proactive measures in response to Russian aggression, with the goal of degrading Moscow’s military capabilities. Targeting critical infrastructure also signals a tactical shift, focusing on the economic and resource supply chains of the adversary. It further demonstrates the readiness of Ukrainian forces to adopt new forms of warfare amid a protracted conflict.

This recent operation follows a series of significant strikes by Ukraine, including an attack on three Russian facilities nearly 1,500 kilometers from the front line. Such actions highlight Ukraine's commitment to disrupt enemy supply lines and enhance its defensive strategy.
