Ukraine’s Appeal to the International Community

According to Кулеба: During a session of the International Transport Forum’s Ministerial Council, Ukraine called for Russia to be barred from global transport platforms and for renewed discussions on its expulsion from international organizations. Russia’s representative joined the annual global transport event virtually.

Ukraine asked its international partners to support the initiative preventing Russia from taking part in transport-related talks.

“A terrorist state that kills people every day, attacks civilian infrastructure, and destroys ports, railways, and roads has no right to sit at the same table as countries making decisions on transport development, safety, and international partnership,” Ukraine’s representative stated in his address.

He also emphasized that

“you cannot simultaneously destroy another country’s transport infrastructure and take part in discussions on recovery and international transport cooperation.”

International organizations must remain spaces of responsibility and adherence to international law. This stance reflects the broader challenge of maintaining institutional integrity when a member state is engaged in armed conflict.

Mobilizing Global Support

Ukraine’s remarks underscore the gravity of the situation stemming from Russia’s military aggression and aim to rally the international community behind isolating the aggressor. The push to exclude Russia from international bodies and platforms could have major implications for global transport policy and collaboration, particularly regarding the rebuilding of infrastructure damaged during the conflict.

As Ukraine intensifies its call for action against Russia's participation in global platforms, it is crucial to understand the broader context of the ongoing conflict. In a related development, President Zelenskyy highlighted that Russia, facing setbacks on the battlefield, has shifted its focus to targeting vital energy infrastructure. This shift not only exacerbates the humanitarian crisis but also underlines the urgent need for a unified international response.
