Ukrainians face fines for 'old' passport: who must exchange for an ID card
According to hvylya.net: According to current legislation, Ukrainians are given only one month to update their old passport or to replace the document with a modern ID card after reaching the corresponding age. If this deadline is missed, the passport automatically loses its validity.
Ukrainian citizens should pay attention to the deadlines for updating the photo in their passport booklet. After reaching the ages of 25 and 45, it is necessary to paste a new photo, otherwise, a fine of up to 51 hryvnias may await, according to the State Migration Service of Ukraine.
The State Migration Service clarified that mandatory exchange of the passport booklet for an ID card is not required, as the passport is a non-expiring document. However, in exceptional cases, such replacement becomes mandatory, particularly if the owner did not paste a new photo within a month after reaching the age.
In particular, mandatory updating of the 1994 sample document is required in case of loss, theft, damage to the document, or changes in the owner's personal data. Administrative liability is provided for using an invalid passport with a fine of 17 to 51 hryvnias.
The novelty from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine involves reducing the time for urgent processing and exchanging the citizen's passport. Instead of the previous 10 days, documents will now be issued within 7 working days. Changes do not affect the procedure for the first issuance of a passport, noted the Cabinet representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.
Properly updating the photo in the passport for citizens of Ukraine after the corresponding age thresholds has become mandatory. Such innovations also entail fines for failing to meet renewal deadlines or for incorrect use of the passport, as well as a reduction in the time for document issuance by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
