Ukrainians Living in Europe

According to УНІАН — Туризм: Olga, a Ukrainian woman who sought work opportunities in Italy, decided to return to Ukraine after encountering difficulties securing employment and facing steep licensing fees. She aimed to establish herself in Italy but was confronted with a three-year wait and a €10,000 expense just to obtain a license for permanent makeup services. Given that the offered salary was roughly half of what she was spending from her savings to cover living costs, returning home became the clear choice.

Back in Ukraine, Olga plans to channel €10,000 into her own business venture. Confident in her abilities, she expects to double her income within six months.

“If I invest €10,000 into my field here all at once, I’m sure I can double my earnings within half a year,” she said.

It’s important to note that Olga does not own property either in Ukraine or abroad, and after returning, she settled far from the city.

Ukrainians’ Experiences in Germany

Another Ukrainian, Daria Tetervak, found refuge in Germany where she received free housing designated for refugees. She shares a room with a friend in a refugee campus. Before moving in, Daria had to clean the space, but she was provided with essentials including a mattress, bedding, kitchenware, and food items such as cookies and instant noodles.

The experiences of Ukrainians across Europe highlight the varied challenges and opportunities they face. Olga’s return and investment in her business underscore the strong entrepreneurial spirit many Ukrainians maintain despite adversity. Meanwhile, Daria’s situation reflects the support systems European countries offer to refugees, helping them adapt and build new lives in unfamiliar surroundings.

Olga's journey is just one example of how Ukrainians are navigating the challenges of living abroad. Similarly, Darya Tetervak shares her insights on social housing and support services in Germany, illustrating the varying experiences of Ukrainians across Europe. These stories shed light on the resilience and adaptability of individuals facing adversity while seeking new opportunities.
