Ukrainian Relay Squad Shatters National Record in Poland
Ukrainian Mixed Relay Team Sets New National Benchmark
According to Федерація Легкої Атлетики: At the 4x100 MIX CHALLENGE tournament in Lublin, Poland, Ukraine's mixed 4x100-meter relay team not only won first place but also set a new national record. Their winning time of 41.90 seconds is now the fastest ever recorded by a Ukrainian team in this event.
The record-breaking team consisted of:
- Diana Honcharenko
- Daniila Khavan
- Oleksandr Sokolov
- Illya Popov
The athletes competed in challenging conditions, with an air temperature of +5 degrees Celsius and light rain. Diana Honcharenko remarked that the team was pleased with their performance and baton exchanges, which closely mirrored their training, despite the somewhat spartan weather.
“The only major difference was the weather compared to our training conditions. But there's no such thing as bad weather in nature, so we had to adapt,” said Diana Honcharenko.
Looking Ahead to Future Competitions
This strong performance provides excellent momentum for the team as they look toward the World Athletics Relays, the world championship for relay events, which will be held in Botswana in May. The qualifying criteria for this championship are published on the website of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation (ФЛАУ).
Setting this new national record is a significant achievement for Ukrainian athletics, highlighting the rising level of athlete preparation and their ability to compete internationally. This success in Lublin builds a positive image ahead of major global competitions and could serve as a catalyst for further development of the sport within Ukraine, inspiring a new generation of athletes.
This remarkable achievement in Poland not only boosts the morale of the Ukrainian relay team but also sets the stage for their upcoming challenges. As they prepare for the World Athletics Relays in Botswana, other Ukrainian athletes are also gearing up for international competitions, with several aiming for medals at the 2026 World Indoor Championships. This growing momentum in Ukrainian athletics reflects a commitment to excellence on the global stage.
