Over 5,300 Airborne Threats Neutralized by Ukrainian Air Defense in July

Ukraine's air-defense units intercepted more than 5,300 aerial targets during that month, including 5,142 strike drones (Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types) and 216 missiles of various kinds. Enemy forces launched more than 9,000 strike drones and missiles in the same period, not including reconnaissance UAVs.

How Ukraine's Air Defenses Performed in July 2026

Air-defense operations in July unfolded under extraordinary pressure. According to the report, the Ukrainian military also neutralized more than 48,000 tactical-level drones since the beginning of July 2026. The most intense enemy attacks occurred on the night of 1–2 July, the night of 5–6 July, and the night of 29–30 July.

Major enemy attack waves

• The opening attack came on the night of 1–2 July. The enemy launched 4 Tsirkon anti-ship missiles, 24 Iskander-M and S-400 ballistic missiles, 34 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 8 Kalibr missiles, 4 Kh-59 guided air-launched missiles, and nearly 500 drones. Ukrainian forces brought down 476 drones and 44 of 46 cruise/guided missiles, but only 4 of 28 ballistic missiles were intercepted.
• Another wave hit on the night of 5–6 July, comprising 68 missiles and more than 350 drones. Air-defense units shot down 326 drones and 37 of 39 cruise missiles; the ballistic missiles in this attack were not intercepted.
• The night of 29–30 July saw 74 missiles of different types and over 280 drones. Ukrainian defenders destroyed 265 of 284 strike UAVs, 54 cruise missiles, and 1 ballistic missile.

At the same time, Ukrainian air defense operated under a critical shortage of interceptor missiles capable of engaging ballistic threats. Ukraine's Ministry of Defense stressed ongoing cooperation with international partners to expand those capabilities, saying that the constant evolution of defense systems is needed as threats grow.

These numbers show both the effectiveness of Ukraine's air defenses and the scale of the threat from an opponent that keeps using advanced technology in its strikes.
