Yuliia Starodubtseva's Run at the Eastbourne Tournament

According to Главком: Ukrainian tennis player Yuliia Starodubtseva (ranked 55th in the WTA) has been eliminated from the WTA 250 grass-court event in Eastbourne, Great Britain. She lost in the first round to neutral athlete Anastasia Zakharova (WTA 91) with a score of 4:6, 6:3, 3:6. The match stretched across three sets, marking their first-ever head-to-head encounter on the professional circuit.

In the opening set, Starodubtseva held a 3:2 lead but then dropped four consecutive games, ultimately losing 4:6. She bounced back in the second set, winning the first two games despite trailing at times, and secured the set 6:3. However, in the decisive third set, she fell behind 1:4, managed to claw back two games, but eventually succumbed with a 3:6 loss.

Upcoming Matches and Wimbledon Preparation

Following Starodubtseva's exit, fellow Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina remains in the tournament after defeating compatriot Dariia Snihur in the first round. Kalinina's next match is scheduled for June 24, where she will face American McCartney Kessler. For Starodubtseva, her next major challenge will be Wimbledon, which kicks off on June 29.

As a result, the Ukrainian player departs Eastbourne and continues her preparations for Wimbledon.

This early exit could impact Starodubtseva's readiness for Wimbledon, as losing in the initial stages of a tournament often provides more time for training and correcting mistakes. At the same time, it opens up opportunities for other Ukrainian players, like Kalinina, to achieve stronger results in this event. It will be important to monitor their performances at Wimbledon, given that the competition is one of the most prestigious on the tennis calendar.

As Starodubtseva exits the Eastbourne Tournament, the spotlight shifts to her compatriot Anhelina Kalinina, who achieved a significant victory over Dariia Snihur in the first round. This win positions Kalinina as a strong contender moving forward, particularly as she prepares to face American McCartney Kessler next.
