According to НОК: In March 2026, the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine’s expert panel named skeleton athlete Yaroslav Lavreniuk the country’s top young athlete of the month. This honor follows his remarkable feat of winning world junior championships in both the U20 and U23 categories.

Born in Zhytomyr, the 18-year-old Lavreniuk made his international debut in 2021. Just two years later, at age 16, he competed for the first time at a World Cup event. He earned a silver medal at the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics, and in 2025, he secured Ukraine’s first-ever U20 skeleton world championship gold, along with bronze at the U20 and U23 European Championships.

Lavreniuk is also the recipient of the prestigious Piotr Nurowski Prize from the European Olympic Committees.
