Life and Service
Roman Chaika was born on May 10, 1980, in Lviv. He received his education at Lviv School No. 49, the Lviv Technical College of Industrial Automation, and the National University Lviv Polytechnic. Following his studies, he worked as an auto mechanic for private companies. Chaika was an active member of the Plast scouting organization, which formed a significant part of his life.
When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Roman Chaika stepped forward to defend his country. He served with the 125th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, participating in combat operations on the southern-Slobozhansky, Donetsk, northern-Slobozhansky, and Zaporizhzhia fronts. After intense fighting on the Lyman axis in Donetsk Oblast, he was transferred to the front in the Kharkiv region, where he mastered drone operation.
Throughout his service, Roman Chaika received numerous awards for his courage and bravery. However, the harsh conditions of frontline life led to severe health complications. His death highlights the long-term medical toll the war takes on soldiers, beyond immediate battlefield injuries. He is survived by his parents, wife, family, friends, and fellow soldiers, who will remember him as a dedicated defender of Ukraine.
