According to Главком: A Ukrainian soldier has been handed a 15-year prison term with full asset confiscation after a court in Mykolaiv found him guilty of high treason. The verdict was delivered by the Korabelny District Court of Mykolaiv. The defendant, born in the early 2000s in Ochakiv, Mykolaiv region, completed vocational school and worked briefly at an ATB supermarket. In 2019, he voluntarily enlisted at a military recruitment office and began serving under contract.

In 2020, the serviceman met a woman from Russia online. She traveled to Ukraine in 2021 and married him. In early April 2024, his unit received orders to redeploy to the Kherson direction. Around that time, the defendant's wife obtained contact information for a representative of the 'Freedom of Russia' Legion. The investigation uncovered that the accused had left details in an email account, including the name of his unit commander and two deputy commanders.

Incidents and Their Consequences

In May 2024, the defendant's wife attempted to cross the border into Moldova, but border guards discovered suspicious correspondence on her phone. Additionally, the serviceman's mobile device showed signs of using a shared email account for covert communication with a Russian representative. Based on this evidence, the court convicted him of treason and imposed a 15-year sentence with confiscation of all property.

Earlier, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kharkiv sentenced a junior border guard sergeant to five years in prison, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in Ukraine. In another incident in the town of Shakhtarske, Dnipropetrovsk region, three men opened fire near a local store and then abducted a 20-year-old. This case involves fighters from the 'Da Vinci Wolves' unit. The court ordered all three suspects to be held in custody for 60 days without bail.
