The assault resulted in 14 fatalities and left another 14 injured, including six individuals in critical condition, among them an 11-year-old boy. President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly revealed the aftermath of this attack and called on the United States and European nations to intensify pressure on Russia.

Safety Measures and Response by Ukrzaliznytsia

As part of the inquiry, Ukrzaliznytsia is conducting a detailed, second-by-second review of the events leading to the deaths on the station platform. Prior to the strike, the entire Dnipro station had been alerted about the city-wide alarm, ensuring passengers were warned in advance.

The monitoring team detected the approach of a hostile rocket-powered drone, triggering commands to halt train operations. These instructions were communicated to locomotive crews and station personnel. Evacuation orders on the train bound for Zaporizhzhia were issued more than ten minutes before the impact.

An assistant train driver personally checked each carriage to assist with evacuation, following established protocols. Instructional posters outlining evacuation procedures and emphasizing the need to move at least 200 meters away from the platform were displayed in every carriage. The locomotive crew evacuated early, and multiple announcements urging people to seek shelter were broadcast throughout the station.

Ukrzaliznytsia stresses the critical importance of adhering to safety protocols.

“We will thoroughly review all protocols once again to identify areas for improvement or faster response times, ensuring everyone moves to safety without exception. Railway stations, platforms, and all trains-both long-distance and commuter-have become primary targets for the enemy,” the company stated.

The company also noted that despite these precautions, many individuals remained dangerously close to the train at the moment of the strike, contributing to the high number of casualties. They urge all rail passengers to heed announcements and follow staff instructions diligently to protect their safety.

In response to the tragedy, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to revise its security protocols to enhance passenger safety during air raid alerts.
