Ukrzaliznytsia launched the train 'Sakura': route, composition, services for passengers
Passengers noticed a new label 'Sakura' in the 'Ukrzaliznytsia' application next to tickets for train No. 81/82 Kyiv - Uzhhorod. It turned out that this is a signal about the launch of an upgraded flagship train with new carriages and improved service. This is reported by Ukrzaliznytsia.
What does the label 'Sakura' mean on the train Kyiv - Uzhhorod
Ukrzaliznytsia explained that this is not about a new route, but about the gradual renewal of the train composition.
Main points:

old carriages on route No. 81/82 are being replaced with new ones;

the 'Sakura' label indicates modernization of part of the train;

over time, the entire composition will be updated.
This decision was made due to numerous complaints from passengers about the condition of the carriages.
What the train has become after the upgrade and what is available for passengers
The flagship train 'Sakura' is formed from new carriages of Ukrainian production from 2026 and modernized children's carriages.
The composition has:

improved sleeping places and more space;

modern climate control systems;
-
inclusive elements, including ramps;
-
children's areas with changing tables and playpens.
Additionally, thematic elements were added:

decorations with cherry blossom petals;
-
access to content about Japanese culture;
-
board games and thematic menu.
The name of the train is symbolic and related to the fact that Kyiv and Uzhhorod are known for the spring blooming of cherry blossoms. The project is being implemented with the support of Japan as a gesture of partnership between the countries.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported that by 2028 they plan to acquire up to 100 such carriages as part of the rolling stock renewal.
Recall that Ukrzaliznytsia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) with the support of the European Union signed two grant agreements for a total of 54 million euros to implement three important projects.
