According to glavcom.ua: Ukrainian karatekas demonstrated patriotism during the 'K1 Youth League Poreč' tournament by refusing to take a photo with a Russian athlete. The winner, Ukrainian Yuri Pavliuk, and bronze medalist Nikita Hlushko climbed the podium, ignoring the organizers' attempts to take a group photo.
This stance of Ukrainian athletes was prompted by the likes of Russian karateka Myrra Andreeva on posts supporting the occupation. It turns out that athletes not only fight on the tatami but also defend their values in the post-competitive space.
