Compensation Payments to Civilians

According to Кулеба: The government of Ukraine has made a decision to pay 50 thousand hryvnias to civilian Ukrainians who have been released from illegal detention by Russia. The payment applies to those individuals who have returned to Ukraine and have not previously received financial assistance. This decision was made at a government meeting at the initiative of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

New Payment Rules

According to the new rules, released civilians will receive 100 thousand hryvnias once after their release, as well as the same amount for each year spent in captivity. This financial assistance has already been provided to 12 thousand people for a total amount of about 1.2 billion hryvnias. The resolution on payments will come into effect on January 1, 2026.

To receive funds, released individuals must contact the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development. Required documents for obtaining assistance include:

  • a written request;
  • a certificate from the Unified Center for Coordination of Search and Release.

A special interdepartmental commission has been created to consider applications, which will ensure the proper payment process.

This decision is significant for supporting individuals who have experienced difficulties due to illegal detention and can be an important step in restoring their social status.

The payments also underline the Ukrainian government's commitment to provide support to citizens who have suffered as a result of the conflict and to simplify the process of obtaining financial assistance for those in need.
