The government will double cogeneration: how it will affect the stability of the energy system
Development of the cogeneration network in Ukraine
According to Кабмін: The government of Ukraine continues to develop the cogeneration network, which will ensure the energy resilience of communities. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has instructed the Ministry of Energy to prepare a plan for increasing cogeneration for the next year and to eliminate regulatory barriers for business. It is expected that cogeneration capacities will double from the current indicators.
Positive changes for investment
The Prime Minister noted that the mechanism for insuring military risks will come into effect in 2026, which is expected to positively impact the investment climate in the energy sector. There are also programs 'Affordable loans 5–7–9' that can contribute to the expansion of cogeneration capacities. Svyrydenko emphasized that the algorithm for entrepreneurs should be simple and understandable.
“More cogeneration capacities in the national network means fewer power outages across the country” - Yulia Svyrydenko.
The plan for increasing cogeneration must be submitted by the end of December this year, which indicates the government's activity in the issue of energy stability. Thus, the government's efforts can significantly affect the stability of Ukraine's energy system in the face of modern challenges.
The development of cogeneration capacities in Ukraine is an important step towards ensuring the country's energy independence, especially in conditions where the energy infrastructure is facing significant challenges due to military actions. Increasing cogeneration can:
- improve the energy balance,
- reduce the load on traditional energy sources,
- decrease the risks of power outages.
Implementing new business support mechanisms can also help attract investments in this area, which in turn will contribute to improving the country's energy security.
