In Ukraine, a 'purge' of passports is being prepared: what data will disappear from documents

According to hvylya.net: Ukraine is preparing to establish the use of the Ukrainian language in passport books, which were previously issued only by court order. This is stated in draft resolution No. 13369.

After the transition to ID cards in Ukraine in 2016, passport books were no longer produced. According to the authors of the bill, the last blanks for these documents were produced back in 2014. With the introduction of ID cards, the equipment for producing passport books was completely destroyed.

A new requirement is to make all entries in the passport book exclusively in Ukrainian

According to existing legislation, information in documents can be duplicated in regional languages, including Russian. However, if the amendment is adopted, passport books issued based on court decisions will be made only in the Ukrainian language. This will not affect previously issued documents.

Changes in legislation will enhance the establishment of the Ukrainian language in documentation and become another step towards promoting its use and development in the country.
