In Ukraine, there are plans to return train stations to round-the-clock operation due to ongoing alerts

New rules are being prepared for the operation of the railway during long air alerts in Ukraine. Among the possible changes is the round-the-clock operation of train stations, quicker boarding and disembarking of passengers, as well as a new arrival procedure for trains at stations. This was stated by the Minister for Restoration, Infrastructure, and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk. 

How the operation of the railway may change during alerts

New decisions were discussed at an operational meeting with the participation of the leadership of Ukrzaliznytsia, the Kyiv City Military Administration, and military command. The main objectives cited were passenger safety and stable train movement.

In particular, the possibility of round-the-clock operation of railway stations is being worked out. Trains and passengers are planned to be distributed to avoid simultaneous arrivals of several trains at adjacent platforms.

Additionally, during heightened threats, control procedures may be simplified to reduce boarding and disembarking times. At the same time, plans are in place to improve the danger monitoring and response system in coordination with the military.

Russian attacks lead to hours-long train delays

The need for changes is related to regular Russian attacks that disrupt railway operations. In recent days, due to shelling, dozens of trains have deviated from their schedules.

In particular, on August 27, some trains were delayed by more than 15 hours. The new rules are expected to help the railway adapt more quickly to long alerts and reduce their impact on passenger transport.
