The Unified Center for the Identification of Deceased Bodies in Ukraine

Ukraine has begun operations with the Unified Center for the Identification of Deceased Bodies. The newly established Center has become a venue for an off-site meeting chaired by the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk, and with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Leonid Tymchenko.

According to Leonid Tymchenko, the Center will provide the opportunity for identification in the most challenging cases, helping to establish the names of those who gave their lives in the Russo-Ukrainian war. The specialized institution will allow for examinations through various methods and the exchange of data with international colleagues, implementing the best global practices.

“The role of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in this process is extremely important: we not only ensure coordination but also guarantee that every person who died during the war will be identified and buried with dignity,” emphasized Leonid Tymchenko.

The process of identifying deceased bodies in Ukraine has already become more efficient due to the centralization of regional forensic medical examination bureaus into a single system managed by the Ministry of Health and close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

The Unified Center for the Identification of Deceased Bodies in Ukraine creates the opportunity for effective identification of deceased individuals as a result of the war and ensures their dignified burial. This new initiative is an important step in preserving the memory of the deceased and supporting their families.
