In Ukraine, pensioners younger than 40 were found: who are they and how much do they earn

Pensioners younger than 40 years in Ukraine
У Україні виявили пенсіонерів, які не досягли 40-річного віку: їх історії та рівень життя.

Economic Truth reports that there are six pensioners-prosecutors in Ukraine who are younger than 40 years. These individuals receive a pension intended for prosecutors. Most of them continue to work in the prosecutor's office after receiving their pension.

Currently, there are 5739 prosecutors receiving a pension for length of service in Ukraine, of which more than 2200 continue to work. More than a thousand of them have not yet reached the age of 50. Some prosecutors are trying through the courts to obtain higher pension payments, and currently about 1200 prosecutor pensioners have an average pension of 50,600 hryvnias.

Legislative errors in the laws have allowed prosecutors to retire earlier than ordinary citizens. This became possible due to the interpretation of the laws from the 1990s, when a pension could be obtained after 15 years of service, regardless of age. At the same time, ordinary citizens can only retire after reaching 60 years of age and having 35 years of work experience. The maximum pensions for prosecutors today amount to 51,500 hryvnias per month, although at one time they could reach 251,000 hryvnias.

Ukrainian prosecutor pensioners who receive pensions for length of service continue to work, often receiving pension payments simultaneously with their own salaries. Despite legislative shortcomings, this situation indicates the need for improvement of the pension system and the assignment of pensions equally for all citizens in all spheres of labor.
