Details of the Trial
The trial experienced multiple postponements due to various reasons. Although the case hearings began in April 2024, they faced repeated delays caused by:
- the defendant's health issues;
- a declared hunger strike;
- changes in legal representation;
- absences of defense lawyers;
- motions to recuse judges and court clerks.
The panel of judges presiding over the case consisted of Petro Nevoit, Pavlo Eder, and Oleksandra Bayova. According to the Criminal Procedure Code, Zinchenko has a 30-day window from the verdict announcement to submit an appeal.
“Vyacheslav Zinchenko, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing my mother, Iryna Farion, has filed an appeal. We are entering a new phase in the fight for justice, truth, and the memory of my mother. This journey has been long and difficult, but I will not back down. While they may contest the verdict, no one can bring my mother back to me, nor to my children their grandmother. That is why I will continue fighting until the very end. This is not just about the sentence-it’s about ensuring that those who commit such brutal crimes against someone devoted to Ukraine face inevitable punishment.”

Cases involving serious offenses often bring to light complex intersections of law, ethics, and social justice, underscoring the importance of due process.
