Former Deputy Prime Minister Faces Arrest: New Details Emerge in the Million-Dollar Bribery Case
At the High Anti-Corruption Court, a hearing commenced regarding the selection of a preventive measure for former Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Chernyshov in a case of illegal enrichment. Prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office are requesting to take him into custody for two months with an alternative bail of 55 million hryvnias, which is equivalent to the amount of illegal enrichment of the former official. The hearing has been postponed until November 18 at 16:00, and the court has not made a ruling.
During the hearing, the SAP prosecutor revealed new details of the high-profile case. According to him, the meetings of the back-office employees of Timur Mindich with Oleksii Chernyshov for conspiracy were called the 'Intellectual Club.' During his time in office, Chernyshov allegedly received 1.2 million dollars and 96 thousand euros there.
The money was transferred through Chernyshov's wife, Svitlana, who appears on the tapes as 'Professor,' at a beauty medical center in the center of Kyiv, owned by the family of financier Mindich, Oleksandr Tsukerman ('Shugarman').
Chernyshov himself denied his guilt and involvement in the case. 'I am not familiar with most of the persons involved, have not seen them, and do not know them. I have no contacts and do not plan to communicate,' he stated in response to a question from a journalist from RBC-Ukraine.
'I am not and cannot be part of a criminal organization. The suspicions are based only on assumptions,' the former official added.
The new details of the high-profile case confirm the criminal activity of the suspect and a comprehensive conspiracy plan, which may have serious consequences for the participants. The further process of reviewing this case will be crucial for establishing the truth and imposing corresponding punishments in accordance with the law.
