The research, published in the journal of the American Chemical Society, used the radioactive decay of uranium within these zircons to calculate the age. The oldest crystals from this site are themselves about 4.02 billion years old, offering a direct window into our planet's deep past. Zircon is among the most stable minerals on Earth, making it an invaluable tool for geologists.

A Potential New World: Planet Y

The same study also proposes a hypothesis for the existence of a new planet, dubbed Planet Y, within our solar system. This rocky world is theorized to be roughly Earth-sized, with a mass somewhere between that of Mercury and Earth. According to preliminary estimates, Planet Y could orbit at a vast distance of about 100 to 200 astronomical units from the Sun. Its orbit is also thought to be tilted by approximately 10 degrees relative to the orbital plane of the known planets. The search for such distant objects helps scientists test models of our solar system's formation and evolution.
