A Bear Intercepted a Border Crosser in Western Ukraine
Bear Stops Border Violator, Ukrainian Border Guards Report
According to Главком: In the Zakarpattia region, a Kyiv resident attempted to illegally cross the Ukraine-Romania border. The incident occurred during a nighttime trek when the man decided to traverse the highlands. During his crossing, he encountered a bear, forcing him to climb a tree in hopes of escaping the animal.
After the man called the border service, border guards from the Mukachevo unit promptly arrived at the scene. By the time they got there, the bear had already disappeared. The man was safely brought down from the tree and taken to the unit's facility.
An administrative protocol was filed against the violator, and the case materials will be forwarded to the court to determine a fine. This information was confirmed by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, which stated:
'Border guards from the Mukachevo unit quickly responded to the call. By that time, the animal had already left the area. The man was safely taken down from the tree and transported to the unit. An administrative report has been drawn up against him.'
The incident occurred on May 30, 2026, drawing public attention to the dangers that can arise when attempting to cross the border illegally.
This case highlights the risks faced by individuals trying to circumvent border crossing laws. Additionally, the bear encounter underscores that dangerous wild animals can be found in Ukraine's mountainous regions, posing a threat to people.
