Kyiv's Post-Attack Conditions

According to Главком: Following a series of strikes, Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, is operating remotely after its building lost heating and water. The capital is facing its most severe energy and utility crisis in four years of war, particularly after a mass attack on January 9. This has triggered emergency power outages, leaving hundreds of Kyiv's residential buildings without heat.

The energy deficit has grown even more acute following another strike on January 13. Thousands of residents are now without heating amid freezing temperatures, creating a severe humanitarian challenge. Mobile resilience points run by the State Emergency Service (DSNS) are operating around the clock to assist citizens, with reports indicating over 9,000 Kyiv residents have already sought aid at these rescue tents.

Lawmaker's Experience and Wider Impact

MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak described the conditions, noting that his office had almost no heating, with temperatures around 12 degrees Celsius (54°F).

This crisis illustrates not only the immediate challenges for the capital but also the profound strain on civilian infrastructure caused by ongoing hostilities. With emergency blackouts and severe heating issues, local authorities and rescue services are working to provide essential aid to the most vulnerable. These efforts are vital for the city's survival during a period of dangerously low winter temperatures, which are common for the region at this time of year.
