Parliament Approves Key EU Integration Bills

According to Главком: For a second consecutive day, Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has voted on legislation critical for the country's European integration. On April 8, lawmakers passed three bills tied to Ukraine's international obligations and its path toward the European Union. This legislative push is a necessary step to unlock vital funding under the European Union's Ukraine Facility program, as confirmed by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, according to reports from Hlavkom.

The Approved Legislation

The approved legislation includes draft law No. 15111-d on the taxation of digital platforms, which was adopted as a basis for further work. Parliament also passed in full the EU integration bill No. 12426, which implements EU regulatory norms for state oversight, and draft law No. 14030, which reforms the state supervision system.

Draft law No. 15111-d mandates amendments to Ukraine's Tax Code and other legislative acts. These changes are designed to implement the international automatic exchange of information regarding income earned through digital platforms and to establish a framework for taxing such income.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated: 'This is one of the steps needed to continue receiving funding under the Ukraine Facility program. These decisions bring Ukrainian legislation closer to EU standards, make rules for businesses more transparent, and strengthen the trust of international partners. I thank the people's deputies for supporting these important legislative initiatives.'

The passage of these bills represents a significant milestone for Ukraine on its path toward European integration and improving its investment climate. Aligning national laws with European norms is expected to help attract international investment and enhance cooperation with global partners. This move underscores Ukraine's commitment to meeting the conditions required for financial support under the Ukraine Facility, which is crucial for the country's economic stability amid ongoing challenges. The Ukraine Facility is a multi-year support package from the EU, making these legislative reforms a top priority for Kyiv.

As Ukraine continues to make strides in aligning its legislation with EU standards, the recent approval of key reforms is expected to unlock substantial financial support. This legislative success not only paves the way for improved investment conditions but also highlights the importance of ongoing EU integration efforts.
