Impact of power outages on poultry farming in Ukraine

Power outages in Ukraine may lead to a 15-20% increase in prices for chicken and eggs, as well as a shortage of these products due to unstable electricity supply. The Executive Director of the Poultry Farmers Association of Ukraine, Serhiy Karpenko, reported the possible price increase caused by production issues.

Electricity accounts for 7% to 12% of the production costs, and for some types, it can reach up to 30%. This indicates a significant impact of the electricity supply on the production costs of chicken and eggs. In this regard, the production of feed is not adapted to operate during power outages, adding additional difficulties for poultry farmers.

Threats to production and consumers

The reduction in planting plans by poultry farmers may lead to a decrease in production volume. This factor, in turn, may cause even more price increases for poultry products, which is already causing concern among consumers. In the coming months, the situation may become more complicated if electricity supply issues persist.
