Falling Through the Ice: The State Emergency Service Warns About the Dangers of Walking on Ice

According to ДСНС: Walking on ice is very dangerous, so it is crucial to know the safety rules on ice. This was stated by the head of the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Activities of Ukraine, Viktor Vitovetsky, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

Since December 24, worsening weather conditions and the formation of ice on rivers are expected in Ukraine. Citizens are called to be very careful on the surface of water bodies. In 2025, more than 800 people died due to drowning in water, of which 57 were children.

'Do not leave children unattended during winter vacations. Follow the rules, take care of your life, and in emergencies call 101!'

As winter months approach, it is important to remember safety on the ice. It is important to use common sense, follow rescuers' instructions, and not to risk your life.
