Owners of old-style passports will face fines: new rules for updating documents
The State Migration Service reminded citizens that they need to update their photo in the passport booklet after turning 25 and 45 years old. This must be done within a month of their birthday, otherwise the passport will be invalid, which may lead to fines. Thus, control over the validity of citizens' documents has been strengthened.
The Migration Service explained that the passport booklet is not mandatory to be replaced with an ID card, but the procedure requires mandatory exchange of the document in case of loss, damage, or changes in the owner's personal data.
The government has also decided to expedite the process of issuing and exchanging passports, reducing the period from 10 to 7 working days. Fines for using an invalid passport depend on the number of violations, starting with warnings and reaching amounts up to 51 hryvnias.
Control over the relevance and security of documents
The new initiative of the Migration Service aims to maintain the relevance and reliability of documents of Ukrainian citizens. Quick exchanges and strict fines for negligence in this matter should enhance the overall level of security in the country and prevent possible abuses.
