Driver's License in Ukraine: At What Age Is It Allowed to Drive and What Will Change in 2024

New Rules for Elderly Drivers
Starting in 2024, European standards will be introduced for drivers aged 65 and older in Ukraine. Tests for mental state and attention concentration will become a mandatory procedure. The main goal is to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents.
There is also consideration of reducing the validity period of the driver's license for individuals over 70 and regular medical examinations for drivers over 75. Serious fines are provided for violations of age restrictions, such as a fine of up to 3400 hryvnias for lack of documents.
Procedure for Obtaining a Driver's License
Obtaining a driver's license includes passing theoretical and practical exams. Since November last year, candidates can prepare for exams independently or in driving schools. The latest feature is the ability to appeal the results and obtain a video recording of the exam.
European Trends
In the European Union, there is a discussion about lowering the age threshold for truck drivers. Ukraine currently has no official plans in this regard, but an increase in requirements may occur in the future under the influence of European standards.
