According to Главком: During the heating season, fires in residential buildings and structures resulted in 848 fatalities and 10,578 total incidents. These figures highlight the severe consequences of fires affecting Ukrainian homes. Furthermore, 783 people were injured, including 93 children.

Causes of the Fires

The primary cause was a failure to follow fire safety regulations. More than 3,500 fires were sparked by faulty installation or improper use of electrical systems, while over 3,000 originated from problems with stove heating. An additional 2,500 cases were recorded due to the careless handling of open flames.

Several recent incidents have drawn public attention. Police in the Kyiv region are investigating a fire in the Bucha district that claimed the life of a 79-year-old woman, preliminarily linked to a malfunctioning heating stove. In a separate event on the night of February 9, a fire broke out at a transformer substation in Kyiv's Obolon district, spreading to nearby vehicles. Additionally, a generator caught fire at a beauty salon in the city's Pechersk district. These tragedies underscore the critical importance of safety compliance during the colder months. The ongoing conflict has placed additional strain on Ukraine's infrastructure and emergency services, potentially exacerbating fire risks.

The current situation emphasizes the urgent need for enhanced fire safety measures, particularly during the heating season.
