The Death of Doctor Arthur Ponomar: 30 Years of Medicine and Two Military Contracts

According to Міністерство Здоров'я: Arthur Ponomar, a Ukrainian doctor who dedicated over thirty years to medicine, died during the Russo-Ukrainian War on January 8, 2023. He participated in the defense of Ukraine in 2015 and 2022, demonstrating his commitment to service and profession.

Arthur Ponomar was born on July 20, 1965, in Odesa. In 2015, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), which became an important milestone in his life and career. With the onset of the large-scale war on February 24, 2022, the doctor voluntarily joined the military, continuing to fulfill his duty to the country. Ponomar served in the medical service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the 92nd battalion of the Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Kozhushko Ataman Ivan Sirk.

Sadly, on January 8, 2023, Arthur Ponomar died as a result of a direct hit from a Russian missile in the village of Lozove. His death was a great loss to colleagues, patients, and the entire medical community of Ukraine.

In memory of fallen medical workers, the 'Light of Memory' project is being implemented, initiated by the Order of St. Panteleimon, aimed at collecting information about the heroes who gave their lives for the defense of the country.

Arthur Ponomar left behind a legacy that will be remembered not only by his family and friends but by all those who knew him as a doctor and patriot. His life and service in the medical field are examples of professionalism and bravery.
