Ministry of Internal Affairs: over 100 thousand cases of domestic violence per year - what is changing
During the telethon 'Unified News', Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko shared details about the recently identified calls and the latest methods of combating domestic violence.
According to Pavlichenko, the national police received over 103 thousand reports of domestic violence cases during 2025, of which more than 4 thousand were from minors. She emphasized that a society that tolerates domestic violence loses its values.
“In times of war, when the enemy terrorizes the country, we cannot allow the toleration of violence in the family. The family is a place where safety, support, and respect should prevail.”
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges anyone in danger or who has become a victim of violence to call numbers 102 or 112. Kateryna Pavlichenko also reminded about important legislative changes proposed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and supported by parliament. These new rules increase the protection of victims and liability for offenses, especially in cases of violence against children or committing such acts in their presence.
Currently, the police are monitoring over 77 thousand individuals guilty of domestic violence and are actively conducting preventive activities with them.
Kateryna Pavlichenko's participation in the telethon highlighted the seriousness of the domestic violence problem in Ukraine and the importance of measures taken to prevent and stop it. New mechanisms and legislative changes are aimed at protecting potential victims and punishing offenders of domestic violence.
