According to glavcom.ua: The famous Ukrainian strongman and people's deputy Vasily Virastyuk from the 'Servant of the People' party expressed his support for bill 12414, which aims to limit the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP).
"We literally discussed this issue because you are not the first to ask why we supported this and voted for it..."
Virastyuk emphasized that NABU and SAP have not fulfilled their duties completely, diverting attention from real tasks. He also cited the scandalous searches in NABU as one of the reasons that prompted him to support the bill.
"I can't say in detail, because I am not a member of the committee on law enforcement issues – do you think I have a phenomenal memory to remember everything?"
The bill, which proposes to limit the powers of NABU and SAP, received support from 263 people's deputies in the Verkhovna Rada, with the majority of votes coming from the 'Servant of the People' faction.
