Kyiv strike is the war's most cynical attack, Zelensky says

Zelensky called the strike on Kyiv most cynical
Зеленський називає атакою на Київ один із найбільш жорстоких нападів у війні.

Aftermath and Reaction to the Kyiv Attack

According to ХВИЛЯ: In a statement, President Volodymyr Zelensky said the scale of the latest Russian assault on the capital had pushed the death toll to 15. Across Kyiv and the surrounding region, 30 residential buildings were damaged, along with a school, a children's hospital, and a kindergarten.

More than 600 rescuers from Ukraine's State Emergency Service and police officers were deployed to handle the consequences in Kyiv, Brovary, and Boryspil. Zelensky noted that the attack combined multiple missile types with 168 drones, and that Ukrainian forces shot down every Russian Kalibr cruise missile, with a 93 percent interception rate for cruise missiles overall.

“This Russian strike was one of the most cynical, calculated, and massive,” Zelensky said.

Threats and International Support

Zelensky stressed that the biggest danger to Ukraine comes from ballistic missiles, which depend on the supply of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. He added that wounded people must receive all necessary care and that Ukraine's partners should not stay silent about this and other similar attacks.

Earlier reports said the United States has agreed to supply Ukraine with Patriot missiles on a monthly basis. But according to Politico, Europe is running low on interceptors ahead of expected Russian strikes against Ukraine during the winter.

“You cannot simply watch quietly, indifferently, and passively as the Russians destroy lives with ballistic weapons. Ukrainian soldiers can act skillfully when the courage and professionalism of our people are backed by appropriate support from our partners,” Zelensky concluded.

The attack underscores the acute danger Ukraine faces from repeated Russian missile and drone barrages during the full-scale invasion. It also highlights how crucial Western air-defense supplies have become for the country's survival and security.

The ongoing conflict highlights the significant challenges faced by Ukraine in intercepting Russian missile attacks. Recent reports indicate that during a single night, Ukraine managed to intercept just one out of 35 incoming missiles, raising concerns about the availability of essential interceptor systems.
